Monuments was a series of design driven, site-specific performances across the UMass campus inspired by COVID safety regulations which pushed theater makers outside of the familiar performance spaces into a world of new opportunities outdoors. Spurred by the controversy around the toppling of monuments in the U.S., Monuments of the Future were ephemeral performer-embodied creatures that include TRUTH, CONNECTION, REMEMBRANCE, LOSS, INNOVATION, SACRIFICE, DEFIANCE, and the IMPULSE TO DESTROY, all in dialogue with Death. Check out the slideshow with E. Pizzano’s AB’22 original music at https://youtu.be/nRf-mJsWrIQ.

I conceived the backbone of the space for these two shows together in order to provide them both with more of an intimate setting in the large proscenium theater at Umass Amherst - the Rand. The wall and thrust were built for both shows and dressed differently for each. The shows ran one after the other in the Spring of 2022. Please see show-specific credits below.
